My name is Christian Schmidt, I’m 36 years old and I come from Sweden but currently reside in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I’ve lived in Sweden most of my life but I did spend five years in Germany as a child during the mid 80’s and consequently learned to speak German. It is however more than just a little bit rusty these days and I feel much more comfortable with the English language. Despite being a non native English speaker I feel my English is up to par with the native speakers and they acknowledge this as well. Since English is my second language I can empathize with the students in a way that native speakers would find difficult.
Travel
I’m fairly well traveled thanks to my adventurous mother who often took me along to various holidays to different countries such as England, Denmark, Holland, Greece, Egypt and Thailand. I’ve since my first visit to Thailand at the end of 2003 developed a deep curiosity for South East Asia and suffice to say that’s what brought me here.

Philosophy
I’ve always had a philosophical side but it really started to develop four years ago when I started to listen to podcasts and read a lot of books about the subject. My favorite modern day philosopher is without doubt Neil Kramer and if you are curious you can read his essays and listen to his radio shows on www.neilkramer.com
This philosophical endeavor has led me to a vast array of other subjects such as ancient history, geo politics, linguistics, spirituality and symbolism to mention a few. I don’t claim to be a wise old philosopher of any description, nor should anyone, but I think I have accumulated enough bits of wisdom and confidence to be of some benefit to others. In this mechanical world of ours with artificially created concepts and dogmatic belief systems I propose a more fluid and human way of looking at things.

Hobbies
Apart from reading books and listening to podcasts and radio in the aforementioned areas I’ve always enjoyed the art of creation and have delved into areas such as drawing, music, sculpting and digital graphics. Movies have diminished in value for me over the years but now and then I still find something of interest.

Education
I’ve spent about 15 years in school and went to medical college to become an assistant nurse. I wanted to work as an ambulance driver but quickly discovered that I don’t have the resistance to the stress levels invoked by such a job. I graduated but decided to pursue a possible career within 3D animation and studied a one year course as a 3D animator. Since then I’ve worked in many fields such as sales, service, healthcare, industry and transportation to mention a few. Last year I took my TEFL certificate with 4 specialist’s degrees; -Teaching English to young learners,-Teaching large classes, -Teaching with limited resources and -How to teach audio and video lessons.
I don’t have a criminal record and I have a recent document from the Swedish authorities supporting this.
